What the law requires

Since December 2023, every bottle has to say more.

Regulation (EU) 2021/2117 made ingredient lists and nutrition declarations mandatory for wine sold in the EU. Here is how the pieces fit together.

On the physical label

The energy value (kJ/kcal) and allergens must be printed on the bottle, and the word “Ingredients” must appear right next to your QR code.

Behind the QR code

The full ingredient list and nutrition declaration can live on an e-label. That page may not show marketing content or track who scans it.

In every market

Information must be available in the language of each country where you sell. Grapely translates to all 24 official EU languages automatically.

Applies to wines produced from 8 December 2023 under Regulation (EU) 2021/2117, as amended in 2026 by Regulation (EU) 2026/471.

How it works

From data to QR code in four steps.

Name, vintage, ingredients and the lab values. Our calculator turns ABV and sugar into the energy value.

  2. 2

    Publish the label

One click puts the e-label online and generates its QR code.

  3. 3

    Print the QR code

Export in the format your designer needs and add it to the label, next to the word “Ingredients”.

  4. 4

    Customers scan

Shoppers see ingredients and nutrition in their own language, instantly, on any phone.

FAQ

Common questions before you start.

Short answers on the rules and on how Grapely handles them.

Do I have to put a QR code on my wine label?
No. The regulation only requires that ingredients and nutrition information be available to the consumer. You can print everything on the label, but most wineries use a QR code because the full text in several languages would not fit and would disrupt the design.
What has to stay on the physical label?
The energy value (kJ and kcal) and the allergen statements. The word “Ingredients” must also appear next to the QR code so consumers know what it leads to.
Is Grapely compliant with Regulation (EU) 2021/2117?
Yes. Label pages show only the information the regulation allows, carry no marketing content and collect no personal data from the people who scan them. The builder guides you through every mandatory field.
Can I change a label after the bottles are printed?
Yes. The QR code points to a live page, so you can correct or update information at any time without reprinting.
How much does it cost to get compliant?
Nothing to start. The free plan includes three e-labels with every feature, and paid plans begin at €80 per year for ten new labels.

EU wine labelling in 2026: what Regulation (EU) 2026/471 changes, and what it doesn’t

The EU “wine package” became law in February 2026. What is a QR code, and how do you print one that scans?

A QR code is a square barcode a phone camera can read in a second. On a wine label it is the door to the e-label. Here is how it works, what the EU rules say about placing it, and how to make sure it scans on a curved bottle in a dim shop.
